Buckskin Hide Tanning Class

Kick off hunting season in this three day hide tanning class. Instructor Lena Olson will teach each student how to bring raw deer skin to a beautiful, brain tanned buckskin.

$350/person

After material costs, all proceeds will go towards The Making Place!

Schedule:

Day 1 Saturday August 31st (8am-12pm)

Mimosas and pasteries will be provided, cheers!

Begin the initial stages of preparring your hide. Students will scrape the hair and dermis layer from the skin.

Day 2 Sunday September 1st (9am-4pm*)

We will take the clean skin and work fat into the hide to soften it. This is when we start to see a beautiful, luscious buckskin. This may go on for longer, depending on how the hide is drying. Please budget for more time in the afternoon if needed.

Day 3 Monday September 2nd (3pm-7pm)

Students are welcome to come early or stay late to work their hide if needed. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your hard-earned buckskin. In this final stage we will smoke the hide and watch the sunset on the mountains while enjoying a complimentary, Montana grown and brewed glass of wine on the house.

This class is suitable for all levels and abilities. 

All tools and materials will be provided.

Dress appropriately to get a bit dirty.
