About the event
A Natural Basketry Workshop with Sierra Lari
Discover the art of weaving with nature in this hands-on, beginner-friendly basketry workshop!
Join us for a creative day exploring traditional weaving techniques using locally harvested willow bark, bulrush, and cattails. Guided by Sierra, you'll learn how to transform these beautiful natural materials into a functional, one-of-a-kind woven vessel.
Using a pint-sized glass jar or another small personal vessel as your mold, you'll explore foundational basketry techniques, experiment with natural textures and patterns, and create a beautifully woven piece that celebrates the colors and character of the plants themselves.
Sierra will share her knowledge of locally growing weaving materials, including how to harvest, prepare, and store willow bark, rush, and cattails. You'll learn about the seasonal rhythms of gathering and how these versatile plants can be used in future weaving projects.
At the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a handcrafted treasure…
