Opportunities & Open Calls

Maker of the Month

The Making Place

Participate in our new programming opportunity, Maker of the Month. This is an opportunity to showcase your creative passion and gain exposure. We’re looking for creative locals who are excited to share their skills, knowledge and stories with our community.

Beginning this Spring, The Making Place will pick one featured maker each month to lead a brief community event. This event could take the form of a workshop, group activity or presentation. In addition to leading this event, you will be featured on our social media and in our email newsletter.

This opportunity comes with a $150 compensation stipend in addition to a $50 material stipend.

Call for Stories for Flathead Story Concerts - 2025 live story events

Flathead Story Concerts

Storytelling is an art AND a craft -- especially when it's live in the Flathead!

Our all-volunteer free community live story events have inspired and entertained local listeners since 2023, co-hosted at Sacred Waters and FVCC. In 2025 we are planning 2 or 3 more live events with curated and invited stories (not open-mics) -- with dates and venues to come...

Before we can set dates and venues, however, we need more Tellers with memorable true personal experience stories to share. All stories are reviewed in advance and invited for an FSC if they fit our style (ala The Moth or Stories From the Stage).

Dates are now being set, with the first FSC of 2025 hopefully in April. New venues are also being sought -- we had 65 to 120+ Listeners at each live event last year, so we need more space!

Our 2025 Story Themes and Submission Guidelines are at: https://FlatheadStoryConcerts.wootick.com.

Questions? Call curator/co-host Barbara Schiffman at 747-238-0038 or email story23fvcc@gmail.com with your full name and question. If you have a 6-8 minute story to share, email as a PDF.

FSCs are curated and hosted by story coaches Barbara and Glenn Schiffman. Events have been sponsored by Authors of the Flathead, The Bookshelf in Kalispell, and Sacred Waters Brewing. We are also open to additional sponsors -- and seek new opportunities to host more spoken word storycrafting workshops for potential Tellers in Flathead Valley.

We want to hear your stories and share them with story fans!
