On January 19th and 20th, the board came together for our annual strategic “meet-a-thon.” Over two productive (and fun!) days, we revisited our strategic plan and set fresh goals to guide us into 2026.

We kicked things off with a team-building activity led by Amy that helped us better understand where our preferences overlap - and where they differ. It was a great way to get everyone energized and aligned before diving into the work ahead.

After a quick excursion outside, our first official task was to set an intention for 2026. Following a lively brainstorming session, we landed on a shared statement that captures the focus of our working board this year:

“We are working on our foundations by clarifying our working systems so we can continue to maintain high-quality programming for our community.”

That may sound a bit long and wordy, so here’s what it really means: the past year has shown us just how much care, coordination, and behind-the-scenes work goes into running a community organization. As a working board, we’ve been operating with limited time and very lean expenses—and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Now, we’re at a point where strengthening our internal systems will help us sustain and grow the programs our community values.

Our number one priority is hiring our first paid staff member. As we planned for this exciting step, we identified a few important building blocks that needed to be put in place first. The board voted to hire our first bookkeeper, implement software to better manage membership and services, and reorganize our working board into a committee structure that better engages volunteer members.

These updates will help us work more efficiently, support our services, and move confidently toward the goals outlined in our strategic plan. Be sure to check out our Operating System Graphic below for a visual overview - and if you’d like to dig deeper, our full strategic plan is available to read as well. The Strategic plan is currently being updated to reflect the board revisions for 2026. See our 2025 document here.

Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to join our board and get involved through our volunteer membership program. We can’t wait to continue building this together!
